[Case study] One case of kid’s bed wetting at night

A  four-year-old kid was frightened by accidentally falling into the water by the swimming pool, and started enuresis at night for a week(bed wetting). The patient has frequent urination in the daytime, and sometimes goes to the toilet and can’t urinate. The tongue is a bit reddish with a thin white coating. We were treating another disease of this patient, thus we added several herbs to the original formula, which can stimulate the bladder, invigorate the kidney, and reduce astringency. At the follow-up visit, the enuresis problem was resolved.
The “Guidelines for Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment of Pediatrics in Traditional Chinese Medicine” defines enuresis in children as: children over 3 years old who cannot wake up from sleep and repeatedly have unconscious urination behaviour that exceeds a certain number of times per week and lasts for at least 3 months. Chinese medicine is also called “drowning”, and Western medicine is called “children’s monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis”. In addition to bedwetting at night, some children often have symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, or difficulty urinating during the day. After the child wets the bed, parents should not give too much stress, but should be tolerant and understanding, comfort and encourage the child to eliminate tension and shyness, and do not increase the psychological burden of the child.

Case NO.080

Note: TCM doesn’t ‘treat’ any certain WM disease name. TCM has its own system and method to rebalance the human body, release the symptoms and help the body truly recover on its own. TCM treatment methods and effects are different according to individual differences, and the sharing of the case study does NOT constitute treatment recommendations.
